Home->FAQ->What is UPB?

UPB

UPB was developed by PCS Powerline Systems in 1999. Based on the concept of the X10 standard, UPB has an improved transmission rate and higher reliability.

The UPB communication method consists of a series of precisely timed electrical pulses (called UPB Pulses) that are superimposed on top of the normal AC power waveform>

Since X-10 uses 11 power cycles to communicate, sending every command twice pausing between each transmission, X-10 has the overall communication speed of 0.5 seconds. In comparison, UPB sends commands at a rate of every 0.1 seconds.

This eliminates the delay that X-10 users dislike. Pressing a button should result in an action within a tenth of a second to appear instantaneous.

UPB does not communicate with X-10, INSTEON or Z-Wave devices.
