Z-Wave

Z-Wave technology, developed by Zensys, utilizes a mesh network to send signals through the air in the home using low-power radio waves. Every Z-Wave device acts a repeater reliability as more devices are added to the system. In addition, each Z-Wave message contains error detection.

Since X-10 uses 11 power cycles to communicate, sending every command twice pausing between each transmission, X-10 has the overall communication speed of 0.5 seconds. In comparison, Z-Wave sends commands at a rate of every 0.05 seconds.

This eliminates the delay that X-10 users dislike. Pressing a button should result in an action within a tenth of a second to appear instantaneous.

Z-Wave does not communicate with X-10, INSTEON or UPB devices.
